Kaizer Chiefs set to be hauled back to the PSL DC over missed fixtures


Kaizer Chiefs are set to be hauled back to the PSL Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) for the two fixtures they couldn’t honour in December 2021.

Amakhosi failed to honour matches against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows after their camp was hit by Covid-19.

The two matches were rescheduled and played in April despite the matter being before the South Gauteng High Court as the PSL seeked to review the arbitration award handed in Chiefs’ favour.

The two parties – Chiefs and the PSL – were set to meet in Court over the same matter on Tuesday, 10 May but Amakhosi withdrew their opposition.

And that decision left the South Gauteng High Court with no option but to cancel the hearing and later struck the matter off the roll.

According to the information gathered by The South African, the fact that Chiefs withdrew their opposition means the PSL was ‘successful’ in their bid to review the arbitration award.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ LIKELY PUNISHMENT IN THE PSL MATTER

Now, with the matter legally put to bed, the PSL has an obligation to haul Chiefs before the DC where they are expected to be punished.

While Chiefs have already lost the two rescheduled matches, the PSL DC has to rule that City and Arrows won the matches by a 3-0 scoreline.

And that means Chiefs’ goal difference is the only thing that will be affected in this regard, and how that impacts the log standings remains to be seen after their final match of the season.

Chiefs could also be slapped with a heavy fine for bringing the league into disrepute – and it appears the Soweto giants were prepared to lose that.
